Galveston, Texas...Dellanora RV Park
Feb. 1-6
We have spent the past 5 days in Galveston at a great campground right on the beach. That is the good news...the not so good news is that we were afraid the 5th wheel might become an ark and we would float away in the wind and rain!! But you know the boys...it is never too wet or cold for a game of football on the beach. Each evening the wind and rain would subside and they were able to play with Curt while I walked along the beach. The beach is pretty dirty, but from a distance it was pretty.
One of the things I wanted to see while in Galveston was a cruise ship...and the minute we stepped out of the truck downtown...guess what I saw...A CRUISE SHIP!! It was huge and so cool to see up close.
We spent one afternoon at a really fun and HUGE candy shop called La Kings. It was a candy lover's dream. We spent about an hour watching this man make salt water taffy. It was AMAZING!! The picture below is the final step when a machine wraps each piece of taffy..followed by him throwing samples to the crowd of warm and delicious peppermint taffy. Each batch makes 3,000 perfect pieces of taffy..YUM!
Another day we rode a ferry across the Gulf of Mexico. It was interesting to see all the big oil rigs.
The first night we didn't plan well for the rain and our whole shoe bin got soaked. What do you do in a small 5th wheel when there is 100% humidity and it is raining outside...you set us a drying station in your shower...with a space heater going for 48 hours. YEP..the joys of trailer life~!
We really enjoyed seeing all the beach houses...it was so unique to see them all built on stilts. After the bad hurricane several years ago...many have rebuilt...but some, like the one picture, has not. It sounds like it was a devastating storm. There are some beautiful historic mansions that were so colorful and fun to see.
This was the view from our trailer...pretty!
Tomorrow we head to New Orleans. We look forward to seeing this part of the South.
